The Show Must Go On: How we're supporting the UK's venues

6
minute read

The outbreak of the coronavirus has disrupted virtually every sector of the economy, forcing the closure of established high street titans and tiny local businesses alike.

While most businesses have now reopened, the live entertainment industry remains at an impasse, with most venues having been shuttered since March. Encouragingly, the government has now given the green light to indoor performances resuming in England, as long as social distancing can be maintained.

Over the course of the summer, JPIMedia and our network of local news titles have stood right behind Britain’s reopening sectors through our #SupportLocal campaign. In June, we encouraged shoppers back onto their local high streets, and last month we championed restaurants, pubs and bars as they threw open their doors again.

Now it’s time to give our support to the country’s world-leading arts scene as it recovers from this crisis. Our new campaign is called The Show Must Go On, and we’re using it to stand up for Britain’s venues and all the life-changing shows of creativity they host.

We’ve rounded up some of the articles we’ve published recently to support this campaign, shining a light on the vital importance of theatres, music venues and comedy clubs to communities across the UK.
